I abruptly ended a phone call with a friend of mine because I felt like she was being somewhat off a bitch. I sent her a text message this morning giving a brief overview of my activities yesterday. I was in the middle of a transaction at the time so I told her I would phone later with the details. When I got a free moment I phoned as promised prepared to tell my amusing story to said friend. From the moment I called I got the impression she was preoccupied but when I inquired she said it was a good time. However, as soon as I started she began answering question from her husband and discussing a television show with him. So I paused for a few moments, trying to access the situation, and wondering why she didn’t just say I’ll call you back if they were in the middle of something.
Once it seemed like the conversation had ended I began to
tell my story only to be cut off by her television. The television was so loud,
my eardrums were ringing and I would swear my next door neighbors could hear. I
was furious. Keeping a level head, which is a little difficult to do these days
but that’s another story for a more private entry, I asked why the television
was so loud. She replied with “Oh, sorry, I wasn’t aware the television was so
loud” and turned it down a notch or two. So I proceeded with my story only to
be interrupted again by a blaring television. I kept thinking to myself, what
in the hell is wrong with this woman? She’s intelligent enough to know the TV
is too loud, she can barely hear me and I know can’t hear myself think. After a
moment or two I politely excused myself before I said something ugly. How rude
can a person be? then to compound the problem by pretending to be unaware of
how your behavior affects the person on the other end of the phone is
ridiculous. Let’s be honest, you don’t care. If you’re going to show your ass
to someone be honest – don’t play dumb. Or at least save that sad performance
for someone with the IQ of a fetus – that’s about the only person that would
not catch on.
